abc3d

ABC3D is a pop-up book that investigates alphabet letters in three dimensions. It was designed by Marion Bataille. And although it is not obvious whom this book was targeted at, it can amuse both adults and children.
Bataille wanted to “find a movement that would fit the structure of each letter, as if each letter had its own natural movement”. When you wide open a page to uncover the whole spread, a letter jumps off the sheet moved by invisible tags like a puppet controlled by strings and its puppet master. Curiosity makes you to pick the book up, fiddle with it and jiggle it around in attempt to figure out how each character was constructed.
One of the main differences of ABC3D that makes it stand out of majority of pop-up books is its almost oriental minimal but bright colour range. It was not designed for extravagant preferences of children and the choice of only red, black and white colours goes incredibly well with Art Deco looking type. All these qualities make the book stylish and interesting toy for everybody from typography and good design lovers to young children.
